MAPP Dance
I am Lucinda and I am creating my first ever blog. Who would have thought it!? Middle aged and pursuing an MA in Professional Dance Practice at Uni! Oh my!
I have danced for as long as I can remember. I took classes in Modern Ballroom and Latin American at the age of 6 but, when the disco dancing steps came to my dancing school in 1978, I was hooked. This was the sound that was on my radio at home and I danced in my bedroom, behind the sofa in the living room basically where ever I could and I wanted more! most of all I felt “free”. I briefly wanted to be an actress around 8 years old but I went on to compete as a medalist in Ballroom and Latin and I was very successful as a disco freestyle dancer. I also studied the basics of ballet and tap to compliment my other dance genres. I found that the theatre dance forms gave me the strength I needed to compete and the vision to perform. I turned professional in 1989 and taught for my Mum in her dancing school for many years.
Fast forward to our present time 2021, I am renowned in my hometown for my teaching of Line Dancing for my local authority. I am currently finding new ways to connect with students during the covid pandemic and I am also studying and connecting with worldwide master teachers of Tribal Style Bellydancing. Once I can teach live classes again I will be adding the teachings of belly dancing to my portfolio.
Great, this is working Lucinda, go ahead and post your first blog introducing yourself to others in the MAPP community.
